Alaska’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and
transgender communities (and our fabulous straight allies)
demonstrated our PRIDE for 9 colorful days in June as we
celebrated Anchorage PrideFest 2009. Our theme for 2009
was The Last Queer Frontier.
Anchorage PrideFest 2009 took place June 13-21.
During this nine-day period, various non-profit, social,
and business organizations hosted special events
at venues around Anchorage. A highlight of PrideFest is
always the Celebrating Diversity Parade
which took place at 11 a.m. June 20th through the heart
of downtown Anchorage where it was a beautiful day with
a record crowd. After the Parade, we joined the Festival
on the Delaney Park Strip from noon until 6 p.m. The Festival
featured live entertainment, vendors, food, friends, our
first kiddie carnival, and fun, all under the glorious Midnight
Sun.
To make this year’s PrideFest a success,
we needed the support of our entire community... sponsors,
donors, parade entries, festival entertainers, vendors,
groups who sponsor events, hundreds of volunteers... you
name it, we needed it. Thank you for making it great each
year!!
